San Antonians will soon be able to taste their infatuation with Big Red in their beer.

Islla Street Brewing came up with a new beer, aptly named "Big Rojo," which has actual Big Red syrup in the recipe. The first batch was released to a limited group, but word of the Big Red-flavored beer got out and pushed the brewing company to move forward with a full-scale release to the public July 22.

"The most quintessentially 'Texas' beer San Antonio didn't know they had...If this isn't puro we don't know what is," the brewing company says of the new beer.

It's described as a "subtlety tart Berliner body finished with REAL Big Red syrup for the iconic sweet smooth finish of the soda that was made for Texas."

There are a couple of ways for Big Red and beer-lovers to get a taste before the July release. Islla Street Brewing is hosting an online contest which will grant three winners the chance to win some cans. Visit their Instagram page for more details.

Big Hops on Bitters also has one last keg of Big Rojo, which they were planning on selling on Saturday in a barbacoa-and-Big Red-themed event. However, Gov. Greg Abbott ordered all bars to close at noon Friday in response to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, which would affect Big Hops. It's unclear if the business is planning to readjust to a to-go format for the planned Saturday release.

Islla Street does not have a price for the July release yet.
