Wine.Com’s Sales Continue To Surge As Beverage Alcohol’s E-Commerce Channel Expands
June 29, 2020At the start of the Covid-19 crisis, e-commerce retailer Wine.com saw its sales roar into overdrive, and that growth has continued unabated. After experiencing a 47% increase in sales to nearly $200 million in the 12 months through April, Wine.com’s trailing 12-month figures for May jumped by 65% to $222 million. Meanwhile, revenue from the company’s membership program, StewardShip, was up 74% to $115 million in the trailing 12-month period through May.
In the trailing 90 days through June 14—the key period of the lockdown—revenues at Wine.com exceeded $100 million, representing a growth rate of 250% from the year-earlier time frame, the company said. Wine.com has sold over 30,000 unique items from its wine and spirits selection since March 1.
Just before Covid-19’s arrival, Wine.com launched a new program called Wine.com Experiences, which included live tasting events and winery visits for its best customers. The pandemic changed those plans, but the initiative shifted online to find success.—David Fleming
