The Livingston County Farm Bureau and Craigs Creamery have partnered for another free milk distribution. The upcoming event is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. June 29 at Mulligan Farm, 5403 Barber Rd., Avon.

The event is open to anyone.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Livingston County will also provide a take-home activity for children.

Social distancing procedures will be followed and people can stay in their vehicles the whole time while milk is distributed.

The distribution follows a similar event that took place June 1 at Craigs Creamery in York and saw 2,000 gallons of milk distributed.

Mulligan Farm, which hosted Livingston County’s annual “Farm Fest” in 2019, has a legacy dating back to 1840 when the farm was established by Aaron Barber Jr.

In 1980, the Mulligan homestead and farm were named to the National Register of Historic Places.

In 2014, Mulligan Farms was named “Farm of the Year” by the Livingston County Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.

The Livingston County Farm Bureau partnered with Natural Upcycling, Craigs Station Creamery and Dairy Farmers of America to offer the free community milk distribution in honor of World Milk Day and June Dairy month.

Leslie Hamilton, president of the Livingston County Farm Bureau, said the event was a way for the local farm community to give back to the local community that is affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was also a way to honor the hardworking dairy farmers of the community.

The event was assisted through a $50,000 grant from ReFed, a nonprofit food waste reduction organization. The grant helped Natural Upcycling, one of the businesses associated with Noblehurst Farms, distribute milk locally to food banks, food pantries and community members affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

From one of the farms at Craigs Creamery, the milk was brought to Pittsford Farms for pasteurization and was then brought back for the distribution event.

The milk was distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
