Adams County Winery on Monday will release its first wine made from the Orange Muscat grape.

Called First Crush, the summer seasonal wine is a semi-sweet Moscato infused with orange peels and vanilla. This citrus wine has soft floral notes with a lovely vanilla undertone, according to the winemaker’s noted.

The online pre-release already is sold out.

“All new wine creations,” said Vaughn Crouse, who handles business development for the winery, “are a collaborative effort from our staff and winemaker paired with researching current trends, and logging customer requests.”

First Crush joins a group of established wines and some newer ones that Adams County Winery is producing. It still makes some of its followers’ favorites, such as Rebel Red and Tears of Gettysburg. Those are supplemented by some more recent releases, such as Scrapple, Black Magic and Barrel Blend.

The winemaker, Bernard Carrac, said that the idea of an Orange/vanilla infused wine has been floating around for some time at Adams County Winery. “Over 10 years ago, as a distillery manager, I developed an ’Orangecello,’ along with other ’cellos, by infusing orange zest in Vodka. It gave me the idea of infusing the zest of the orange into the wine, instead of using the juice. It worked very well!

“The Muscat wine was a perfect base, as this varietal develops orange and mandarin aromas through the fermentation,” he continued. “The zest just enhanced the wine’s natural flavors. The vanilla is very subtle and tones down the bitterness extracted from the orange zest.”
