Jersey Shore oysters come raw in the half-shell, fried and floating in stew, but now they are drinkable, too.

While drinking a cold beer with oysters is common, Forgotten Boardwalk craft brewery's newest summer brew is made with shellfish.

The new Fortune’s Fate Lemon Oyster Gose combines salty hints of the sea from oysters with the sourness of fresh lemons to create a German wheat-based sour ale that will be available throughout the month of August. There also are two mango variations.

The brewery collaborated with The Barnegat Oyster Collective to create salinity using North Forty Oyster Farm’s sugar shack oysters.

“The oysters add just a touch of salt and although it’s a non-traditional ingredient, people have been really enjoying this collaboration of oysters and beer,” said owner Jamie Quelli.

The woman depicted on the label art is a caricature of a Roaring Twenties flapper wearing pearls, sipping a lemon martini and perched behind an oversized, open oyster that creates those pearly treasures she is wearing. Covering her body are tattoos of nautical symbols, lemons and the North Forty logo.

The lemon oyster beer is available in cans and sold to-go at Forgotten Boardwalk, 1940 Olney Ave. in Cherry Hill, and its mango variation is available by the glass at its outdoor beer garden and in crowlers to go. Mango and the mango/pineapple variations are also available on draft at select bars and restaurants.
