A boozy shakes bar, a music stage, a walk-up window and free parking (!) are part of the new soda shop, which was built right next to the original

Gleaming stainless steel, bright reds and whites pop at the new Elliston Place Soda Shop. It's set to open in October, according to is managers.

They gave the Tennessean a first look at the new version of the classic Nashville meat-and-three that had been an iconic anchor in Nashville's restaurant scene since 1939.

Nashville real estate development mogul Tony Giarratana bought the restaurant last year after rising rent forced the old owners to shut down the original shop.

Giarranta moved it into the building right next door at 2105 Elliston Place, which allowed him to more than double the size and seating capacity.

Features of the new Elliston Place Soda Shop include:

► A stage for singer/songwriter nights

► A free Wurlitzer jukebox filled with CDs

► A walk-up window

► A refurbished 1947 soda fountain from Chicago

► Data and electrical outlets at each booth

► A bar/counter that will serve alcohol, including boozy shakes

► Fifteen free parking spaces in a lot next to the restaurant, with more parking available in the doughnut shop next door after 6 p.m.

The restaurant's first event will be a fundraiser Sept. 26 for medical bills for the Rev. Enoch Fuzz, a longtime civil rights activist and Black community leader, who is battling cancer.
