Who better to have a beer with than man’s best friend?
Apparently, a lot of dog owners lapped up that opportunity. Anheuser-Busch reports it has sold out of “Dog Brew,” a new offering that contains no alcohol, the beer-maker reports.
With so many people adopting dogs during the pandemic, it’s no surprise this best-buddy spirit was a hit. But the beer giant says don’t start barking up a storm protesting the shortage yet.
“We’re in the process of brewing more ‘Nectar of the Dogs’! In the meantime, sign up for our waitlist so you’ll be first to know when it’s back in stock,” Anheuser-Busch reports. “Plus, you’ll receive an exclusive discount on Busch merch for you and your pup. Fur real. Thank you for your paw-tience!”
The beer also comes with swag that will get your pup’s tail wagging. Pooch product. It’s marketing genius. Just think of all the puns you can use.
The latest statistics show there are roughly 89.7 million dogs owned in the United States. That’s a new market for beer Anheuser-Busch can really dig deep into. Even if it’s near beer. The ingredients, Anheuser-Busch says, include bone-in pork butt, whole corn, celery, basil, mint, turmeric, ginger, water.
“Alcohol and hops are toxic for dogs,” the brewer stressed on its website. But this concoction is dog-friendly.
Sure, dogs can eat and drink just about anything else — and good luck trying to to stop them from chewing up your couch, rug, shoes, sneakers, books, clothes, grass, their own … well, you get the idea.
With dog adoptions up 20%, according to the MSPCA, it’s no wonder the canine cans have dog owners scurrying for more.
“The country loves beer and loves dogs. It’s not a bad idea to blend those two loves,” said Rob Halpin of the MSPCA-Angell. “We just hope it spurs interest in dog adoption and the safety and protection of dogs.”
He added the pandemic stay-at-home orders show a much-needed bright side to the fight against the coronavirus: people are taking home dogs and cats put in shelters.
“We want a pet for every home and a home for every pet,” Halpin said Friday. “It’s a rare bright spot.”
Especially for the dog days of summer. Just don’t let your dog drive.
