NEW PORT RICHEY — The public is invited to the launch of Pasco County’s Sports Coast pilsner as its official beer on Nov. 5 at The Widow Fletcher’s in New Port Richey.
Escape Brewing Company’s owners John McGregor and Matt Thompson and members of the Sports Coast team will be on hand from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to meet the public. The partnership between Florida’s Sports Coast and Escape Brewing Co. was born out of the destination’s desire to diversify its marketing efforts by finding a unique way to further promote the brand’s sports-centered identity, officials said.
“Our brands really aligned”, Pasco’s tourism director Adam Thomas said in announcing the partnership and launch event. “Florida’s Sports Coast is all about getting back to adventure, as our recovery campaign states, while Escape’s name comes from wanting to escape from reality.”
The Sports Coast pilsner is a light, crisp beer with notes of citrus. “It’s like sunshine in a can,” said McGregor. Thomas said, “Through this beer, Matt and John have created the perfect sensory translation of who we are as a destination.”
The can artwork, which highlights outdoor activities, was done by Pasco artist Veronica Steiner, the lead designer for the brewery. “It was important we created a cohesive look that perfectly blended both brands into one design,” Thomas said.
“Our hope is to continue to brew the Sports Coast pilsner to provide residents and visitors alike with a unique way to enjoy Florida’s Sports Coast,” he said. “Plus, what goes better with sports than beer?”
