TAMPA BAY, Fla. — Despite the pandemic, the Tampa Bay area continues to boast one of the most vibrant and active craft beer communities in the nation. Bay News 9’s Brews Dispatch checks in regularly to find out what’s happening with our local breweries, behind the bar and behind the scenes. Got any related news? Let us know.
Thanksgiving is over, but many of us are in the midst of a stress-relieving four-day break, and even if you’re not, hey, the weekend’s here. Staying safe and getting in a little pleasure aren’t mutually exclusive, so maybe you’d like to enjoy a local brew while you’re avoiding doing the dishes or putting up Christmas decorations. Here’s the latest from the Tampa Bay craft beer scene.
What You Need To Know
- Bastet Brewing is now open in Tampa's Palmetto Beach neighborhood
- Coppertail Brewing's Captain Jack's Stone Crab Dinner is scheduled for December 15
- Tampa Bay Brewing Company's Waves of Haze is now available in 4-packs of cans
- 3 Daughters Brewing's annual Brown Pelican Dunkelweizen is back
The Ybor City/Port of Tampa area has a new brewery for local aficionados to sample. Bastet Brewing opened earlier this month at 1951 E. Adamo Dr. in the Palmetto Beach neighborhood and promises a wide variety of in-house small-batch brews. They’ve already produced an impressive array of styles from an oatmeal stout to a saison and American amber, and proudly tout themselves as a nano brewery, so you’ll be sure to find new flavors to savor every time you visit.
Speaking of Ybor, Coppertail Brewing’s annual winter tradition, Captain Jack’s Stone Crab Dinner, has been pushed back a bit this year to December 15, presumably because of the pandemic and the complications that have come along with it. Lots of beer and seafood fans look forward to this one, and Coppertail has even brewed a stout with stone crab actually in it in the past, and it looks like the Stone Crab Stout is coming back this year, as well. Stay tuned for more details about this great, tasty community event.
Despite the annual arrival of those dark, spicy seasonal varietals that are now showing up in taprooms across the region, the summer’s hottest craft beer trend, hazy IPAs, is still going strong. It’s a great style for transitioning from the dog days to the cooler climes, and you could do worse than to choose Tampa Bay Brewing Company’s Waves of Haze, a collaboration with Massachusetts’ Vitamin Sea Brewing and Dania Beach’s 3 Sons. Waves of Haze is now available in 4-packs of cans at TBBC’s Ybor and Westchase locations, so you can enjoy it in the safety and privacy of your own pod.
And finally, weren’t we just talking about darker, spicier seasonal varietals? 3 Daughters Brewing’s annual winter opener the Brown Pelican Dunkelweizen is back to cool you down and warm you up at the same time. 3 Daughters says it’s “an easy-drinking German wheat ale with notes of chocolate, banana, clove, and nutmeg,” and that sounds like a perfect brew for the downright cold—for Florida—temperatures we’re expecting next week.
