Luckily, Thesis Beer Project’s NYE livestream is shaping up to be a slamming little shindig.
“New Year’s is one of my favorite holidays of the year,” said Thesis owner and brewer Adam Fredericksen. He was worried the pandemic might not let him ring the new year in with his customary live music. That might explain why he found a way for Thesis to keep the party going online with sets from local musicians like: DJ Ramble; Karate Chop, Silence; TOPO; and Hair of the Dog.

For safety’s sake, the show will include both some sets prerecorded at Thesis before NYE and Hair of the Dog streamed from the brewery stage that night. But that’s not the only benefit to tuning in.
“We want to celebrate the awesome people and businesses who have helped us get through it,” Frederickson said. To that end, he purchased items and gift cards from local creators, eateries, and other breweries to give away during the livestream. All customers who purchase(d) something from Thesis during the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s will be entered in a drawing for these locally sourced items, as well as the grand prize of a “Year of Beer” from Thesis. Winners will be drawn during the livestream.

Buying beer ahead at Thesis or through their online shop will keep you stocked up for the party. Fredericksen says that Sin Credit, a Munich Helles Lager that Thesis has brewed might be the best bet for those who want to “enjoy some drinks while staying up ‘til the wee hours,” but he’s also excited for the release of Collabotage Vol. 2, which was a collaboration with Little Thistle Brewery and features toasted coconut in a sour beer while riffing on Ambrosia Salad. Looking for something thematic? “WE MADE IT” is the newest Imperial Stout brewing up at the Thesis Beer Project. With hints of coffee and maple syrup, it promises an escape from the sticky situation that was 2020.

Ryan Amble, performing as DJ Ramble, is also the drummer for Winona-based Karate Chop, Silence (KCS). He thinks that performing at Thesis, even for a livestream, creates a “small sense of normalcy.” He’s looking forward to his DJ set because he’ll be including a lot of unreleased music he’s recorded during the pandemic with his roommate and KCS pianist, Dante DeGrazia.
Jeremey Jewell says it’s been three months since all the members of local favorites Hair of the Dog (HOTD) have played together on the same stage. The HOTD set will start at about 10:30 p.m. and keep getting louder -- like all good rock n’ roll -- until midnight.
“If this is the closest we can get to playing music in a room full of friends and fans, I’ll take it,” he said.

Though Fredericksen is looking forward to the livestream party, he thinks January and February will be tough months for a lot of local businesses. He said Thesis will be in “survival mode” until spring and outdoor seating make a comeback. For now, though, he’s hoping the Thesis livestream party “can be a celebration of making it through this year as a community.”
