Jennifer Beckmann’s done just about everything a wine professional can do. She’s a sommelier and a certified wine educator, and in 12 years working in the Texas wine industry, she’s helped to open four wineries for other people.
But now Beckmann’s taking a quantum leap forward, with plans to open her own wine bar early next month at Hemisfair in the new apartment development called The ’68. She’s calling it Re:Rooted 210 Urban Winery.
Here‘s the next twist in Beckmann’s evolution: She’s not just selling wine and educating people about wine; she’s making it. Re:Rooted will feature a draft system pouring seven wines that Beckmann made at the Slate Mill Wine Collective in Fredericksburg.
The first seven offerings will include four reds, a rosé and two whites, including one called Ghost Tracks, a blend of albariño, sauvignon blanc and fiano grapes inspired by the San Antonio’s legendary haunted railroad tracks.
Wine will be sold by the glass, by the flight, in growlers and eventually in bottles, with guided tastings and classes. Along with her own wines, Beckmann will feature about 40 Texas labels in bottles, a handful of global wines and local ciders, sakes and vermouths.

To work within COVID-19 restrictions regulating bars and restaurants, Beckmann said Re:Rooted will feature cheese and charcuterie boards as well as food from local chefs through pop-ups and other food events.
Beckmann said she hopes to open fully by Feb. 3, with hours running from 1 p.m. until 9 or 10 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Curbside wine sales could begin as early as next week, she said.
Re:Rooted joins at least two other food and drink operations in the works at Hemisfair, including a second location of the Bombay Bicycle Club and the first brick-and-mortar location for Box Street Social.
