USA Today this week ranked Denver and Fort Collins among the top 10 best cities for beer in the nation.
Denver came in sixth, while Fort Collins landed at No. 8 on the reader-voted list. For the newspaper’s 10 Best feature, editors and a panel of experts name the initial 20 nominees, then readers cast votes for the top 10.
Grand Rapids, Mich., won best beer city in America, according to the 2021 polls.
Denver’s very respectable sixth-place honor came with mentions of the Great American Beer Festival and Wynkoop Brewing Company, which was founded in 1988 by now-Sen. John Hickenlooper.
“The local behemoth that is Coors once cast a shadow over the Denver beer scene, but that shadow has been cast aside by the roughly 100 craft breweries, brewpubs and tap rooms currently operating in the metro area,” USA Today’s description read.
As for Fort Collins, the city of 165,000 residents “punches well above its weight when it comes to beer.” Home-grown breweries New Belgium, Odell, Funkwerks and Equinox are named, as are some beloved local beer bars: Tap and Handle, The Mayor of Old Town and The Forge Publick House.
