LANSING - A bar that serves up craft beer and more than a dozen different types of sliders plans to open a location in downtown Lansing.

Sidecar Slider Bar will open at 500 E. Michigan Ave. sometime this year, co-owner Steve Simon said.

The bar's first location opened about five years ago in Birmingham, he said. Two others have since opened in Commerce Township and Farmington.

Sidecar Slider Bar will offer two dozen beers on tap and a menu that centers around 15 to 20 sliders filled with everything from pulled pork to tuna, Simon said. Most customers order two or three at a time, he said.

"We try to do unique stuff that people don’t see every day," he said.

That includes peanut butter and jelly bacon cheeseburgers that usually surprise guests, Simon said.

"Every time they come back it's one of the favorites," he said.

Efforts to bring a location to downtown Lansing started over a year ago, Simon said.

The space on East Michigan Avenue near Jackson Field, home of the Lansing Lugnuts, was previously home to Beer Grotto.

"It's an amazing spot," Simon said. "We’re very excited to be in Lansing."

A full kitchen is being added inside, he said.

"We're slowly plugging away at the construction," he said, but the eatery won't open until capacity restrictions on indoor dining are loosened or lifted.

When it opens, the bar will offer seating for 140 people, Simon said. Patio seating will be available as well.
