West Kill Brewing
When it comes to bucolic beer-drinking scenarios, West Kill Brewery is impossible to beat. Well-spaced picnic tables have panoramic views of West Kill Mountain and St. Anne’s Peak, and the brewery’s out-of-the-way location — six miles into a dead-end road — makes for little car traffic nearby. The rustic tasting room is stationed near the end of Devil’s Path and welcomes hikers fresh off the toughest trail in the Catskills.
West Kill takes pride in using locally grown ingredients and pure mountain well water to brew beers with a strong sense of place. Whether you choose the grassy and flawless Kaaterskill IPA or the toasty SapHouse Brown Ale, brewed with foraged maple bark, you simply can’t pick a less-than-stellar beer here. Their springtime food pop-ups include Oyster Party, serving fresh oysters and lobster rolls April 17-18, 2021.
What to drink right now: West Kill’s own crisp, fresh, golden Doodblebug Pilsner is well-balanced, easy to drink, and comes in a can adorned with colorful spring flowers. In April, they’ll bring back Sunshine Valley, their clean and crushable Bavarian lager named for the nearby Spruceton's Inn’s previous incarnation as the Sunshine Valley Resort, which was owned by the Schwarzeneggers (Arnold’s cousins) a few decades ago.
