TROUP COUNTY, Ga. — Northbound lanes of I-85 were blocked for hours on Sunday evening after a multi-vehicle crash that dumped thousands of pounds of beer on the road.
A spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) said that the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near exit 18 (Greenville Road) in Troup County. According to a preliminary investigation by the Georgia State Patrol, two tractor-trailers, a pickup truck, and a passenger vehicle were involved in the accident.
In the process, the DPS spokesperson said one of the tractor-trailers overturned dumping 40,000 pounds of Bud Light across the northbound lanes. Lanes remained blocked throughout the evening as crews worked to clean up the lost load of beer.
At this point, the accident is still under investigation. The Georgia State Patrol reported one injury in the crash. That person was taken to an area hospital for treatment though their condition wasn't available at the time.
