CLEVELAND, Ohio – Three Ohio cities – Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus - have landed on a national list of best beer cities, according to research from a St. Louis-based real-estate data company.
To determine its list, the company, Clever, compared and weighted a variety of factors including number of breweries, beers per brewery and styles made per brewery.
Here’s how the three Ohio cities making the list fared (with number of breweries, average number of beers per brewery and average number of styles):
9. Cleveland: 49 - 33 - 17
11. Cincinnati: 67 - 33 - 17
15. Columbus: 60 - 30 - 15
The site’s methodology also took into consideration brewery density, which is why Cleveland ranks ahead of Cincinnati.
The site says Cleveland “punches above its weight when it comes to variety.” It also mentions the city’s brewing history and gives a shoutout to Great Lakes Brewing Co. - in particular its Chillwave Double IPA.
Other findings from the site:
• The top three best beer cities are San Francisco, Indianapolis and Chicago.
• Portland, Oregon, has the most breweries in a single city on the list, with 183.
• The average American brewery offers 19 different brews.
• For those who like to hit breweries on their travels, know this: Salt Lake City and Riverside, Calif., have zero each.
