For craft beer lovers, Chandler offers some great options. Downtown Chandler, in particular, is chock full of restaurants, coffee shops and stores and there's no shortage of places to enjoy a pint either.

Many of Chandlers craft beer options are close together, perfect for a beer crawl or day of sampling. Walk around downtown and visit the tropical birds at The Perch Brewery, stop in at Pedal Haus for lunch, then head up to SanTan Brewing's production facility to see how the magic is made.

Other Chandler destinations for beer include Quarthaus, a downtown taproom with a couple of house beers to offer; Helluva Brewing Company, a brewery and barbecue restaurant on Ray Road; the Twisted Cactus, another option for local brews and barbecue; and Hop Central Brewery and Taproom, a strip mall spot serving a mix of local and out of state beers along with four house made options.

Here's a beer lover's guide to breweries and beer bars not to miss in Chandler.

Catch up with friends at these casual hangouts

Keep an open mind when visiting The Perch Brewery in downtown Chandler. The thought of beer and birds might be unusual, but the rescued tropical birds filling the edges of the large patio add an element of fun — and it doesn't hurt that the beer is top notch. An enormous patio filled with umbrellas and bougainvillea surrounds a cozy indoor bar, which also serves a full food menu for brunch, lunch and dinner. A large rooftop patio offers more outdoor seating. The beer menu offers 20 brews on tap and rotates seasonally. For those not in love with beer, try a creative cocktail, each named after a — you guessed it — bird.

The Sleepy Whale might be the perfect place to spend a weekend afternoon. This bright and airy space is filled with picnic tables that are great for groups of friends and family. Fans of craft beer entrepreneur Justin Evans' other bars and bottle shops across the Valley, including downtown's The Theodore and Tempe's The Golden Pineapple, will love this Chandler location. Pick your pint from a large list of rotating taps featuring a curated selection of local and national craft brews. Once you're ready to head home, grab a six pack from the fridges full of interesting cans and bottles.

These spots have good food and great beer

Pedal Haus Brewery's original location sits in the middle of Tempe's Mill Avenue. But in the spring of 2020, Pedal Haus celebrated its grand opening in downtown Chandler. While smaller than the Tempe location, fans can still expect an inviting brew pub with indoor and outdoor seating and full food menu. Brews on tap include Pedal Haus favorites the White Rabbit hazy IPA and Biere Blanche, a traditional Belgian wheat beer that took home gold at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival.

SanTan Brewing helped put Chandler on the craft beer map, and the area's largest brewery has multiple locations throughout its hometown. Find the brew pub and adjacent cocktail bar Spirit House in downtown or tour the enormous production brewery just a few miles north on Warner Road. SanTan's downtown location offers a full food menu for brunch, lunch and dinner with classic pub fare including pizzas, burgers and tacos. IPA lovers rejoice, as three of SanTan's six flagship beers fall into the hop-heavy category.

This chain's Chandler location has made a big impact

It might be surprising to see chain restaurant BJ's Brewing on this listof local options. But BJ's Brewing makes the list as a shout out for all the people who have passed through its doors. Derek "Doc" Osborne, head brewer at Pedal Haus Brewery and recognized by fellow brewers as one of the best around, started his career in brewing at BJ's original location in California before moving to Chandler. Jeff Huss, co-owner and head brewer of Huss Brewing, worked at the Chandler BJ's for seven years. Rob Gagnon, a brewer who now owns Flying Basset Brewing in Gilbert, also worked at BJ's honing his skills before opening his own location. BJ's Chandler brewery also makes all of the beer for every Arizona location of the restaurant.
