Few things pair as well as a cold beverage and a hot summer day. And given that the capacity limit on gatherings has been lifted, you’ll likely want to bring some extras to share.
Lately I’ve been skipping the six-pack in favor of the mixed-pack, a selection of 12 beers that breweries are more commonly releasing so drinkers can stock their fridges with variety. Personally, the options help temper my indecisiveness at the store. Here are three mixed-packs I’ve been enjoying lately.
To please the hopheads: Canarchy IPA mixed pack
Canarchy Craft Brewery Collective is a small conglomerate of regional breweries throughout the U.S., and one of the benefits of having several brands under the same umbrella is being able to have a mixed selection of India pale ales in one purchase. This 12-pack features four different IPAs to please every palate, whether you’re craving the resiny bitterness of a Jai Alai from Cigar City Brewing or a juicier, fruit-forward flavor profile from Oskar Blues Brewery’s Can-O-Bliss. The lineup also includes Three Weavers Brewing Co.’s Expatriate IPA, which offers piney and floral hop notes, and Deep Ellum Brewing Co.’s namesake IPA, which boasts a sturdy malt profile to back up the bitterness.
For a wide array of styles: Upslope Brewing Co. mixed box
Hoppy beers are not everyone’s flavor, which is why Upslope Brewing Co.’s mixed pack is another crowd-pleaser. The box features several of the Boulder brewery’s year-round styles, including the Craft Lager, Rocky Mountain Kolsch, its IPA and, my personal favorite, Citra Pale Ale, as well as a rotating seasonal recipe. But in the most recent one I picked up, there was a surprise sixth beer: Upslope’s new Hazy IPA. Talk about choices.
Something beer-adjacent: Topo Chico Hard Seltzer mixed pack
Hear me out: Even a dedicated beer drinker like me can appreciate a palate cleanser every once in awhile. Topo Chico entered the boozy-bubbly market in early 2021 with four flavors: pineapple, lemon-lime, strawberry-guava and mango. While they’re fine on their own, I prefer to drink them over ice with a squeeze of fresh lemon, lime or grapefruit juice for a sincerely crushable low-ABV cocktail. No judgment passed for anyone who wants to add a splash of vodka or tequila.
