2nd Language Patisserie is open officially as of Tuesday, Dec. 1. The downtown bakery will specialize in all scratch, housemade croissants and French croissant-style doughnuts, bagels, vegan hand pies, savory porridge bowls and much more. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 7-11 a.m. In the coming months the savory side of the restaurant will open with ramen and Southwest Asian street foods.

The Beer Snob Bottle Shop is a new craft beer and brewing store on North First Avenue. The store, formerly a Winetree, reopened recently with a focus on craft and import beers and brewing supplies. With a huge selection of single bottles, it’s a great stop for trying new brews or putting together a gift box for beer-loving friends.

Dusty Barn Distillery is now offering a limited supply of Doc’s Apples Brandy made with apples from Farview Orchards in Posey County. It will be available in 375 mL bottles for $45 beginning Friday, Nov. 27 at noon in the tasting room. While you’re there, you may pick up one of the distillery’s other products for holiday indulgence, such as the aged corn whiskey, white corn whiskey, Rye or Bourbon. The tasting room is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only.

La Plaza is a new traditional taco and Mexican food truck around town. Find it periodically at Panaderia San Miguel bakery on Washington Avenue near Weinbach Avenue and in lucky neighborhoods. The menu might include hot fruit and spice ponche drinks, street tacos, burritos, nachos, quesadillas, street corn, tamales and more. The Facebook page will announce upcoming dates.

The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemeris having a holiday cookie sale. Order by Monday, Nov. 30 to pick up at the church on Sunday, Dec. 6, or order by Sunday, Dec. 6 to pick up on Sunday, Dec. 20. Sweet treats include chocolate crinkles, Oreo truffles, iced sugar cookies and gingerbread men, peanut butter cookies, no bakes, cream cheese candy cookies, dog biscuits and more.

Lure Seafood and Grille will be hosting a beer tasting dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in their Good Time Tent near Smothers Park in Owensboro. The dinner will be five courses with beer pairings from Grevely Brewing in Louisville at a cost of $75 per person. Call to reserve a place.
